More Dear Evan Hansen Film Announcements With Moore

09.02.20

BY: PHEOBE HORIBE

Alright, everyone. Another announcement has been made for the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen film — because they really enjoy announcing each cast member one by one.

Julianne Moore has been officially cast as Evan’s mom, Heidi Hansen, which was originated on Broadway by actress Rachel Bay Jones. Moore has had a substantial film and television career which have given her one Oscar win, two Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globes. She’s also had Oscar nominations for Boogie Nights, The End of the Affair, Far From Heaven, and The Hours. Since Tuesday’s announcement of Moore playing Heidi Hansen, all the principal roles have now been cast — assuming Ben Platt does in fact reprise his role as Evan Hansen.

Ben Platt.

Ben Platt.

He is listed on IMDB as playing the teenager in the upcoming film (which, btw, his real-life father, Marc Platt, is producing) — but there was never a splashy press release confirming the fact. A handful of media outlets announced that Julianne Moore would be “joining” Ben Platt in the film (though none of them included their source for Platt’s participation), and then other outlets cited those outlets as their sources… We’d be surprised if he doesn’t shave his mustache and put that blue polo back on, but on the other hand, nothing really surprises us anymore.

The cast list now includes Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) as Zoe Murphy, Amy Adams (Vice) as Cynthia Murphy, Danny Pino (Law & Order SVU) as Larry Murphy, Colton Ryan (Boadway’s Dear Evan Hansen) as Connor Murphy, Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) as Alana Beck, and Nik Dodani (Atypical) as jared Kleinman, and Ben Platt… probably.

Kaitlyn Dever.

The film will be directed by Stephen Chbosky (Wonder) with the script written by Steven Levenson (Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen). The music and lyrics will be the same music from the Broadway production, written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul who also wrote music and lyrics for the film The Greatest Showman, and Broadway shows including Dogfight and A Christmas Story: The Musical. There have also been rumors of a few new songs from Pasek and Paul.
