Celebrate Freedom with this Juneteenth Playlist

06.19.20

BY PHEOBE HORIBE

If you don’t already know, Juneteenth happens on June 19th every year and celebrates the day when Texas finally freed all slaves in 1865. Though President Lincoln had declared the Emancipation Declaration in 1863, Texas had not received news of this and it took nearly two and a half years for the state to finally free everyone.

This year, Broadway Black is hosting an awards show to specifically celebrate Black artists in the Broadway community with the Antonyo Awards. Listen to the nominees and tune in to Broadway Black’s Youtube or Facebook page on June 19th at 7pm EST to see who wins!

While we wait for Broadway to return, keep in touch with Broadway Roulette via our InstagramTwitter, and reading our blog, Broadway Spin! Or join a Broadway Roulette Mixer!
