Andrew Keenan Bolger is a busy man! On June 20, the Broadway vet / children’s author hit the premiere of “Bandstand: The Broadway Musical on Screen” at the SVA Theatre to support his pals – and Bandstand’s stars – Laura Osnes, Corey Cott, and Jeremy Jordan. (ICYMI, Bolger and Jordan starred together on Broadway in Newsies back in 2012-2013.)
Broadway Spin caught up with Kennan-Bolger to find out about his career hopes, his thoughts on working with family, and his very fast-approaching wedding.
Despite having starred in several Broadway musicals (most recently as Jesse Tuck in Tuck Everlasting), Bolger hasn’t landed his dream role yet. Asked what that role might be, the 33-year-old quipped, “Anything in a Sondheim musical. I haven’t gotten to do a ton of his work, but he’s always sort of been like, holy father. I also would love to be in a musical with one of my sisters, maybe John and Jen.”
Oh yeah, his sisters, Celia Kennan-Bolger and Maggie Keenan-Bolger, are also crazy talented. Though he hasn’t worked with them in the past, he assured us that if the opportunity arose, they would jump at the chance. As for sibling rivalry, the triple-threat said, “It doesn’t exist.”
He probably doesn’t have time to plan a Broadway show with his relatives right now though, since he’s getting married in a matter of months. Keenan-Bolger got engaged to Scott Bixby last September and the wedding is set for this coming fall. So, what will the event be like? “We’re getting married in October, up in the Catskills,” he mused. “A little small engagement with our friends. It will be pretty nontraditional, kind of chill. Kind of a weekend getaway for us and our closest friends.” Sounds like the perfect day to us!
“Bandstand: Broadway Musical on Screen,” presented by Fathom Events, is exactly what it sounds like: On June 25 and June 28 the musical will screen at over 700 movie theaters for a truly unique viewing experience.
