We love Broadway shows as much as the rest of you — the drinks at Broadway shows? Err… not so much. To anyone who has dropped roughly $20 during intermission on a themed drink that was 90% triple sec (Meteor Shower, we’re talking to you!): There has to be a better way. Enter Liquor Lab. It’s in Soho, but that’s closer to the Theater District than you think. 5 stops on the C train to be exact.
For full disclosure, we discovered Liquor Lab because one of our scribes — Hilary Sheinbaum — happens to be its creative director, but we’re sharing it with you because our staff attended a preview class and it was empirically awesome (#teambuilding). At its core, it’s a cooking class, but for drinks. All of the hard work — cutting lemon wedges, boiling molasses into a magical syrup, tracking down a jigger (that’s a mixing utensil) — is already done. You simply perch on your bar stool and follow instructions to create some of the most delicious cocktails you’ve ever tasted. There’s a sociable atmosphere, snacks galore, and plenty of time to mix and mingle.
Whether you’re a cocktail aficionado (like our biz dev associate) or don’t know the difference between a Manhattan and a plain ol’ glass of whiskey (like me), you’ll have to work hard not to have a good time. It’s something a little different that, like the Great White Way, reminds you why New York City is such a special place. With select classes on Sunday evenings, we can’t imagine a better date or girls’ night out than a matinee followed by a lesson in cocktail creation… Dinner and a movie? Please — this is Manhattan! (There are also classes on Wednesdays – Saturdays, just FYI.)
To celebrate our new discovery, we’re giving away TWO $25 gift cards to Liquor Lab — Follow our Instagram @broadwyaroulette for details to come!!
Fine print in case it isn’t obvious: Must be 21+ to win.
